Calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium along with numerous other trace elements are essential to cell life. Although they only exist in minute quantities, they are vital for a healthy metabolism. A number of studies of human pathology draw attention to these cellular functions and the problems caused by deficiencies, for example in psoriasis.
In order to help prevent such possible metabolic dysfunctioning, ERICSON LABORATOIRE has developed OSMOTHERMY. This intensive treatment using macro and trace elements has a dual action : it helps restore mineral levels as well as clearing the skin tissue, and as such offers an excellent alternative to body-sculpting treatments. Its action is based on two complementary phenomena: cutaneous absorption and osmosis.
Osmosis is the movement of a solution through a membrane that is permeable or semi-permeable to certain chemicals into a solution of higher solute concentration. The solvent diffuses from the solution with the lowest concentration into that with the highest concentration and vice versa for the dissolved substance. Consequently, when the concentration in salts outside the skin is lower than the concentration inside the body, minerals cannot penetrate the skin. However, in the reverse situation the difference in concentration creates osmotic pressure that allows the minerals to penetrate into the body.
- how heavily concentrated they are on either side of the stratum corneum,
- their electric charge, and
- the nature of the hydrolipidic film.
Naturally, the condition of the stratum corneum plays a decisive role : any alteration to its structure will allow greater transcutaneous absorption.
GUÉRANDE NATURAL SALT
Just as the characteristics of wine differ from region to region, the quality of salt also varies depending on natural parameters. GUERANDE, on the Atlantic coast in Brittany, has for centuries been synoymous with salt, the region «white gold». Even today, salt is harvested from the marshes using traditional methods. The way the salt is harvested determines both its crystallisation and its mineral content.
Traditional Guérande salt is harvested in a thin layer of water in salt pans whose bottom is made from clay. It is a perfectly natural and untreated product that preserves its original grey colour.
Renowned for its organoleptic properties, Guérande salt also has specific physicochemical and therapeutic quaities and plays an important role in restoring mineral levels. Analyses carried out at Nantes University School of Pharmacy have confirmed its high magnesium content.
OSMO-THERMY EXFOLIANT
OSMO-THERMY EXFOLIANT is the new ERICSON LABORATOIRE body scrub with natural salts.
It contains fine Guérande salt. As well as being naturally rich in minerals, these salt crystals, which measure less than 1mm, are extremely gentle on the skin. This treatment has also been enriched with trace elements in the form of Oligo-salts, a powder with an even finer texture than that of the salt. Mixed with massage oil, it melts into the skin for a gentle exfoliating action that helps restore mineral levels without irritating the skin tissue.
Ideally, treatment with OSMO-THERMY EXFOLIANT should precede all types of body care in order to lift dead skin cells and eliminate toxins, unblocking the pores and thereby allowing active ingredients to optimally penetrate the skin. However, it should not be applied to damaged or broken skin nor immediately after depilation.
Tested in our pilot Institute, Guérande salt has also proved extremely effective when used as a body mask. Combined with a heating blanket, the 3 body-wraps OSMO- THERMY CELLULITE, DRAINAGE and ENERGY triggers intense perspiration and therefore significant clearing of the skin tissue, a useful ally in the
